Film Fixer Hanoi
Shooting in Vietnam's capital? We handle permits, local crew, Old Quarter locations, and logistics on the ground — so you can focus on the shoot.
Your Fixer on the Ground in Hanoi
Hanoi is one of Southeast Asia's most visually distinctive production destinations — layered history, French colonial architecture, the timeless streets of the Old Quarter, and proximity to Ha Long Bay and the northern highlands. It is also a market where local knowledge is essential. Permit processes are managed through separate city-level authorities, key locations require long-standing relationships, and the city's character demands a production partner who understands it deeply.
Alchemist Productions operates across both of Vietnam's major production hubs, with a dedicated presence in Hanoi. We have been fixing commercial, documentary, and branded content productions in northern Vietnam for over 15 years — working alongside international directors and agency teams as a transparent, single-point-of-contact partner from the first recce to final wrap.
What Our Hanoi Fixer Service Covers
Every logistical and operational element of your Hanoi shoot, handled by a team that knows northern Vietnam inside out.
Filming Permits & Government Approvals
Permit requirements in Hanoi differ from Ho Chi Minh City and vary by location type and district authority. We manage the full approval process — city permits, Old Quarter heritage permissions, government building access, and rooftop approvals — and know exactly how long each takes.
Local Crew Hire
Access our vetted network of Hanoi-based cinematographers, gaffers, grips, art directors, stylists, and production assistants — all with credits on international commercial and documentary productions shooting in northern Vietnam.
Location Scouting
From the Old Quarter's 36 guild streets and Hoan Kiem Lake to French colonial buildings, Long Bien Bridge, and day-trip locations including Ha Long Bay and Ninh Binh — we scout and secure the right location for your brief with full recce reports.
Equipment Sourcing
We source cameras, lenses, lighting rigs, grip equipment, and specialist gear from trusted suppliers in Hanoi. We also manage customs clearance and temporary import permits for equipment brought from abroad.
Logistics & Production Management
Transport, accommodation, catering, scheduling, and crew management — all coordinated from a single point of contact. We run a clean budget with full transparency so there are no end-of-shoot surprises.
Translation & Local Liaison
Bilingual producers on set throughout. We handle all communication with local authorities, location owners, vendors, and crew — nothing gets lost in translation between your creative team and the ground.

Start a ConversationHanoi Film Fixer: FAQ
Permit requirements in Hanoi depend on your location type. The Old Quarter and Hoan Kiem area require approval from the Hanoi People's Committee and, in many cases, the district-level authority as well. Heritage sites, government buildings, and public spaces each have separate permit processes. Drone filming requires Civil Aviation Authority approval with additional restrictions in central Hanoi. We manage all of this — you don't need to navigate Vietnamese bureaucracy yourself.
For standard commercial shoots, 4–6 weeks lead time is workable. Productions requiring Old Quarter permits, heritage site access, or locations outside the city — such as Ha Long Bay — benefit from 8–12 weeks. Ha Long Bay in particular requires advance coordination with the Quang Ninh provincial authority. The earlier we're involved, the better the location and permit outcome.
Yes — Ha Long Bay is one of the most requested locations for productions shooting in northern Vietnam, and we have established relationships with the provincial authority in Quang Ninh. A Ha Long Bay shoot typically requires 2–3 days: travel day, shooting day on the water, and return. We manage all vessel hire, permits, and logistics. We can also arrange Ninh Binh or Sapa as alternative northern landscape locations.
Hanoi has a distinctly different permit environment from Ho Chi Minh City — government presence is stronger, permit processes can be more formal, and certain locations (particularly near government buildings and the Old Quarter's heritage streets) require additional approvals. The visual language of the city is also very different: more colonial architecture, a slower pace, and a distinctly northern character. We operate in both cities and can advise on which market best suits your brief.
Yes. As well as fixer services for productions arriving with their own director and agency team, we offer full-service line production in Hanoi — assembling the entire crew, managing all departments, and delivering the finished production. Get in touch with your brief and we'll advise on the right service level.
