Your Fixer on the Ground in Cambodia

Cambodia offers some of the most visually extraordinary production locations in the world — ancient temple complexes that no other market can replicate, a capital city undergoing rapid transformation, and landscapes ranging from the Mekong riverfront to the Cardamom Mountains. It is also a market where the right local partner is everything. The Angkor Archaeological Park operates under its own permit authority, city filming requires separate government approvals, and the logistics of working in Cambodia reward experience over improvisation.

Alchemist Productions has been operating across Southeast Asia for over 15 years, with an established presence in Cambodia covering permits, vetted local crew, and the full range of the country's production locations. We work as a transparent, single-point-of-contact partner from first recce to final wrap — handling everything the local environment demands so your international creative team can stay focused on the shoot.

What We Do

What Our Cambodia Fixer Service Covers

Every logistical and operational element of your Cambodia shoot — from APSARA permits to on-the-ground logistics.

APSARA Permits & Government Approvals

Filming within the Angkor Archaeological Park — including Angkor Wat, Bayon, Ta Prohm, and the surrounding temple complex — requires approval from the APSARA Authority. Separate permits are required from the Ministry of Information for commercial productions and from Phnom Penh authorities for city locations. We manage the full permit chain across both markets.

Local Crew Hire

Access our vetted network of Cambodia-based cinematographers, gaffers, grips, art directors, stylists, and production assistants — all experienced on international commercial, documentary, and branded content productions. Cambodia's production market is growing fast and English is widely spoken across the crew base.

Location Scouting

From Angkor Wat and the Bayon to Ta Prohm's tree-root ruins, Phnom Penh's Sisowath Quay riverfront, the Royal Palace, Tonle Sap Lake, and the Cambodian countryside — we scout and secure locations with full recce reports and permit status on every option presented.

Equipment Sourcing

We source cameras, lenses, lighting rigs, and grip equipment from trusted suppliers in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. Cambodia is a lower-cost equipment market than Singapore or Thailand, though specialist gear is often imported. We manage customs clearance and temporary import permits for all equipment brought from abroad.

Logistics & Production Management

Transport, accommodation, catering, scheduling, and crew management — all coordinated from a single point of contact. Logistics between Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, and to more remote locations, require experience and planning. We handle it all with a transparent, fixed-fee budget from the start.

Translation & Local Liaison

Khmer-English bilingual producers on set throughout. We handle all communication with APSARA authorities, Phnom Penh city officials, location owners, vendors, and crew — ensuring nothing is lost between your international team and the ground.

Common Questions

Film Fixer Cambodia: FAQ

What permits do I need to film in Cambodia?

Permit requirements in Cambodia depend on your location. Filming within the Angkor Archaeological Park — including Angkor Wat, Bayon, Ta Prohm, and all surrounding temples — requires approval from the APSARA Authority (Authority for the Protection and Management of Angkor and the Region of Siem Reap). This is a separate process from standard government filming permits. For commercial productions filming outside the Angkor park, approval is required from the Ministry of Information. City locations in Phnom Penh require additional municipal permissions. Drone filming requires Civil Aviation Authority of Cambodia approval. We manage the full permit chain across all location types.

Can you film inside the Angkor Wat temples?

Yes — filming inside the Angkor complex, including within temple interiors, is possible with APSARA Authority approval. The permit process covers crew size, equipment, shooting dates, and specific locations within the park. Some areas of the complex have access restrictions for conservation reasons, and certain times of day are restricted to manage tourist traffic. APSARA permits require advance planning — we recommend 8–10 weeks for productions requiring temple interior access. We have an established relationship with the APSARA Authority and manage this process on your behalf.

How far in advance should I book a fixer in Cambodia?

For standard commercial shoots in Phnom Penh, 4–6 weeks lead time is workable. Productions requiring APSARA permits for the Angkor complex benefit from 8–10 weeks, particularly if temple interior access or specific shooting windows within the park are required. Multi-location productions combining Phnom Penh and Siem Reap should allow extra time for logistics planning between the two cities. The earlier we're involved, the better the location and permit outcome.

How does filming in Cambodia compare to Thailand?

Cambodia offers a lower production cost base than Thailand — crew rates, equipment rental, and accommodation are generally more affordable. The Angkor temple complex is Cambodia's unique visual asset and has no equivalent anywhere in the region. The production infrastructure is less developed than Thailand, meaning specialist equipment often needs to be imported and crew networks are smaller, though growing fast. Permit processes in Cambodia can be less predictable than in Thailand, which is why an experienced fixer with established local relationships is particularly valuable in this market.

Can you manage the whole shoot if we don't have our own production team?

Yes. As well as fixer services for productions arriving with their own director and agency team, we offer full-service line production in Cambodia — assembling the full crew, managing all departments, and delivering the finished production. Get in touch with your brief and we'll advise on the right service level for your project.
